It convinces you that happiness depends on others’ approval, that your worth must be proven, or that control is safety. Jesus Christ’ words guide us here: “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave” (Matthew 20:26-27). Humility and service are hallmarks of living from essence, not ego.

1. Stillness and Reflection – Sit in quiet, close your eyes, and notice your thoughts. Ask: “Is this coming from fear or love? From judgment or acceptance?” Essence speaks gently; ego pressures, worries, and persuades.

2. Symbolic Anchors – Sometimes a meaningful object can help center your awareness. A softly glowing Archangel Gabriel drawing, for example, can serve as a reminder that guidance and clarity are always near. Even wearing spiritual apparel that resonates with your beliefs can be a subtle, grounding reminder of your connection to higher truth.

3. Mindful Observation – Watch your reactions. Do you feel triggered or peaceful? Ego thrives on comparison, defensiveness, and tension, while essence moves through calmness, patience, and compassionate understanding. “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger” (Proverbs 15:1).

The Mirror of Relationships

People around you often reflect your inner state. When a conversation sparks irritation or pride, pause and observe: Is this truly about them, or about the story my mind is telling me? Essence responds with empathy, while ego reacts with judgment. Choosing the former transforms conflict into connection, fear into understanding.

“Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). In this stillness, your soul recognizes the difference between the whisper of essence and the chatter of ego.

Choosing Your Path

The journey isn’t about silencing the mind completely. Ego will always whisper. The real practice is awareness and conscious choice. Essence becomes more vivid the more you listen to it—through meditation, prayer, or the quiet moments between the noise of daily life.

“Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:8). When your choices flow from love, patience, and presence, you step fully into essence.
