I Thought I Was Done, But God Wasn’t

May 7, 2026 Posted by Lisa Hornor artist News No Comments

I thought I was done. Done trying…done hoping…done believing anything could change.  I guess we all have felt that quiet exhaustion—the kind that doesn’t always show but sits heavy inside.

Life can bring moments that leave you wondering if restoration is even possible anymore.

But in my lowest places, something gentle kept whispering: God wasn’t finished with me. Not even close.

And maybe that’s exactly what I needed to hear. What feels like an ending may actually be the beginning of something deeper, softer, and far more meaningful than before.

Psalm 34:18 The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. There is something sacred about brokenness. Not because it feels good, but because it becomes the place where God draws closest.

There were moments when everything felt overwhelming, unheard, and too heavy to even pray. In those moments, this verse became real in a deeply personal way.

I was not forgotten in those moments. I was held.

Even when everything felt silent, God was near my pain. And in that nearness, restoration began quietly—steady, patient, and real, even when it could not be felt yet.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you… plans to give you hope and a future.

Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him.

There were seasons when life felt like broken pieces that no longer fit together. But slowly, I began to understand that God was seeing a full picture that I could not see at all. What felt like a delay was actually a redirection.

Nothing was wasted—not the tears, not the waiting, not the disappointment.

God was quietly weaving everything into something meaningful, even when it made no sense in the moment. Even what hurt me was never beyond His reach to redeem.

Isaiah 43:19 See, I am doing a new thing… I am making a way in the wilderness.

Restoration was not always about going back to what once was. In my journey, it became clear that God was doing something deeper—something new.

God doesn’t repair; He renews. Look forward. The past is done, keep your memories, what you learned, but it’s done. God restores to brand new. He brings life into dry places and direction into confusion.

Slowly, identity began to shift. Healing started changing how I saw myself. Old heaviness began to fall away, and in its place came a quiet strength I had not carried before.

Joel 2:25 I will restore to you the years that the locust has eaten.

Restoration with God has never been only about returning what was lost—it has always been about transforming it.

There were years I thought were gone forever, moments I believed were wasted. But over time, I began to see that nothing was truly forgotten.

The One Creator is restoring all the lost years, making it into something brand new. “Be still and know that I Am God” Psalm 46:10

God was redeeming even what felt beyond repair. He was rebuilding gently, piece by piece, fully and faithfully.

And slowly, I began to notice strength returning—not in a loud way, but in a steady, grounded way… like when I started wearing new spiritual shirts or spiritual clothes. It reminded me that peace, hope, and confidence were not self-made, but received through God’s healing work.

Maybe I still felt unfinished in many ways.

But unfinished never meant abandoned. It meant I was still being shaped. God was not done with my story. Even when I could not see it, He was working in ways far beyond my understanding.

So, I learned to hold on gently. To let hope return slowly. To let healing unfold in its own time. What was coming was never just recovery. It was restoration.

In that restoration, I came to realize something deeply true—I was never truly done. I was only being prepared.
