Four Seasons, One Truth: When Nature Reveals God’s Perfect Timing

October 22, 2025 Posted by Lisa Hornor artist News No Comments

There is something deeply comforting about the rhythm of seasons. Spring always follows winter. Summer arrives with predictable warmth. Autumn brings its golden goodbye, and winter invites stillness once again. These cycles repeat year after year, continent after continent, never rushing, never skipping ahead. I once came across a small plaque featuring a Gabriel angel drawing during a walk through the forest. The serenity of that moment made me pause and reflect on how creation itself teaches us about time, patience, and trust. The seasons do not argue with the calendar. They simply unfold according to a rhythm set long before human clocks existed. What if the changing seasons are God’s way of teaching us that time is not something to fight, but something to trust?

When Beginnings Feel Slow

Spring is the season of visible hope. Trees that looked lifeless for months suddenly burst into bloom. Flowers push through hard soil. Birds return from distant places, guided by instincts we cannot fully explain. Everything feels fresh, new, and alive.

Isaiah 43:19 — “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

The prophet Isaiah spoke these words to the Israelites who were in exile, feeling forgotten and hopeless. The verse before it reminds them not to dwell on the past, and the verse after describes God providing water in the desert. Isaiah is telling them that God is already at work, even when they cannot see it yet.

I remember planting seeds in my garden one spring. For weeks, nothing happened. The soil looked exactly the same. I questioned whether I had done something wrong, whether the seeds were defective, whether I should just give up. Then one morning, I saw the tiniest green shoot breaking through the surface. It was so small I almost missed it. But it was there. Growing. Becoming.

Spring taught me that beginnings do not always look impressive. Growth happens beneath the surface long before it becomes visible. God is always working, even when we cannot perceive it yet. The waiting is not wasted time—it is preparation time.

Have you ever felt like nothing was happening in your life, only to realize later that God was preparing something beneath the surface?

When Life Feels Full

Summer bursts with energy and abundance. Days stretch long, giving us extra hours of light. Gardens overflow with produce. Children play outside until the sun sets late. Everything feels expansive and generous.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 — “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”

Solomon wrote this as part of a larger poetic reflection. The verses that follow name twenty-eight different times: planting and uprooting, weeping and laughing, keeping and throwing away. He is teaching us that life unfolds in rhythms, not rigid timelines. Each season has its purpose.

I think about summer afternoons spent with friends and family. Long conversations on the porch. Meals that stretch into the evening. Laughter that fills the air. These moments feel abundant not because they are extraordinary, but because I am fully present in them.

Summer reminds us that life is meant to be lived fully, not just endured. It teaches gratitude for the blessings we have right now, not just the ones we are waiting for. The long days are a gift, inviting us to savor rather than rush.

When was the last time you paused to appreciate the abundance already present in your life—relationships, talents, simple daily joys?

When Letting Go Becomes Beautiful

Autumn is the season of vibrant transition. Leaves change into brilliant shades of red, gold, and orange before falling to the ground. Trees release what they no longer need, trusting that new growth will come in time. The air turns crisp, and everything slows down.

Psalm 104:19 — “He made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down.”

This verse sits within a larger psalm celebrating God’s creation. The verses surrounding it describe how God provides food for all creatures, how the earth is full of His works, and how everything depends on Him for life. The psalmist is marveling at the order and intentionality woven into creation.

I love walking through fallen leaves, hearing the crunch beneath my feet. There is something peaceful about watching trees let go. They do not cling to leaves that have served their purpose. They release them without resistance, trusting the cycle to continue.

Autumn has taught me that endings can be beautiful. Letting go is not always loss—sometimes it is preparation for something new. The trees look bare for a season, but they are not dead. They are resting, gathering strength for the next chapter.

Are there things in your life that you need to release, trusting that new growth will come in its time?

When Stillness Becomes Sacred

Winter slows everything down. The world quiets. Animals hibernate. Plants rest. Snow blankets the ground, muffling sound and creating space for reflection. Days are shorter, encouraging us to turn inward.

Psalm 127:2 — “In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—for he grants sleep to those he loves.”

This psalm was written by Solomon, reflecting on the futility of human striving without God’s blessing. The verse before it says, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” Solomon is reminding us that rest is not laziness—it is trust.

I remember a cold winter morning sitting by a frosted window with a cup of tea. I had nowhere urgent to be. No pressing tasks. Just quiet. At first, the stillness felt uncomfortable. I kept reaching for my phone, looking for something to fill the silence. But then I let myself just be. And in that space, I prayed. I listened. I breathed.

Winter teaches us that stillness is not emptiness. It is sacred space where God can speak without competition. Rest is not the absence of productivity—it is a different kind of fruitfulness. Seeds germinate in darkness. Roots grow deeper in hidden places.

How often do you allow yourself genuine pauses to breathe, rest, and reconnect with God?

The Bigger Picture

Each season carries its own spiritual lesson. Spring teaches hope and renewal. Summer teaches gratitude and presence. Autumn teaches release and trust. Winter teaches rest and faith. Together, they reveal a rhythm that is both consistent and changing.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 — “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”

This verse comes right after Solomon lists the twenty-eight times. He is saying that God’s timing is perfect, even when we cannot understand it. The verse before it talks about the different seasons of life, and the verse after reflects on how God’s work endures forever. Solomon is teaching us that there is a bigger picture we cannot always see.

I reflect on how these seasonal patterns mirror my own life experiences. Times of growth, joy, contemplation, and rest cycle naturally. Some years feel like perpetual spring—full of new beginnings and exciting changes. Other years feel like long winters—slow, quiet, and challenging.

But here is what I have learned: every season has purpose. The waiting is not wasted. The stillness is not emptiness. The letting go is not loss. God is working through it all, shaping us according to a rhythm we can trust even when we do not understand.

Do you notice these seasons reflected in your own life? What season are you in right now?

Creation as God’s Classroom

Observing nature helps us recognize God’s presence in time. Romans 1:20 — “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”

Paul wrote this to the church in Rome, explaining how creation itself testifies to God’s existence and character. The verse before it talks about God’s wrath against human wickedness, and the verse after describes how people exchange truth for lies. Paul is saying that nature reveals God’s qualities so clearly that ignoring Him is a choice, not an accident.

During walks in the park or quiet time in my backyard, I often notice patterns that seem ordinary yet profound. A bird building its nest with patient precision. A branch bending under snow without breaking. The gentle flow of a stream that never stops moving. These moments remind me that God’s hand guides every detail.

Could you take a moment today to notice God’s work in the natural world around you? These moments become opportunities for deeper spiritual reflection and connection.

Time as a Spiritual Teacher

Time, like the seasons, guides us in ways we often overlook. Psalm 104:24 — “How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.”

This verse appears in a psalm celebrating God’s creative power. The verses surrounding it describe how God provides for every living thing, how the oceans are filled with life, and how all creatures depend on Him. The psalmist is overwhelmed by God’s wisdom displayed in creation.

I once began sketching small scenes from each season in a notebook. The act of slowing down to observe and draw connected me more deeply to God and to the rhythm of life. Creating a drawing of wisdom inspired by nature became a personal reminder of God’s timing and presence.

Observing the earth teaches patience, awareness, and gratitude. Ordinary seconds, when noticed, become teachers of God’s wisdom. The seasons do not rush. They do not skip steps. They simply unfold, trusting the One who set them in motion.

Could your own observation of nature teach you lessons about time, growth, and faith?

Living in Harmony with God’s Rhythm

You can integrate the lessons of nature into daily life. Start by noticing the changing environment outside your window. Take mindful walks. Journal reflections about the current season. Even spending a few minutes appreciating the colors of leaves or the scent of flowers can connect you with God’s timing and presence.

Galatians 6:9 — “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

Paul wrote this to the Galatian church, encouraging them to persevere in faith. The verse before it talks about sowing and reaping, and the verse after urges them to do good to everyone. Paul is reminding them that timing matters—harvest comes at the proper time, not on our impatient schedule.

The four seasons offer more than beauty. They teach lessons about time, faith, and life. By paying attention to the natural cycles, we learn to value rest, growth, abundance, and reflection. At Spiritual SurfWear, the mission is to create reminders of faith that carry into daily life. Even small acts, like creating art inspired by nature, become opportunities to understand God’s wisdom. Choosing a quiet moment for observation or prayer can transform ordinary seconds into deep spiritual insight.

Life, much like nature, is a rhythm of sacred moments waiting to be noticed. The question is not whether the seasons will change, but whether we will trust the One who orchestrates them. Spring will always follow winter. Light always returns after darkness. God’s timing is never early, never late, and always perfect.
